Media + Idea Lab Film Festival

The Media + Idea Lab Film Festival draws mainly from shorts produced by students in the CSER course "Video as Inquiry" but also from other student projects across campus.

The Center'’s Media and Idea Lab (MIL) consists of a series of courses and programs that employ media, particularly visual media, as a mode of inquiry. Key in this effort is the development of a “lab” environment in which students, faculty, and visitors can jointly participate in trying out ideas and creating knowledge communities through media. Students can also develop different types of projects, including curatorial, video, and web.

CSER continues to be Columbia's main interdisciplinary space for the study of ethnicity and race and their implications for thinking about culture, power, hierarchy, social identities, and political communities. The Center also offers a wide range of public programming, including Artist at the Center, Indigenous Forum, and Latino Public Speaker Series and the Transnational Asian/American Speaker Series. CSER's most recent spaces include the Media and Idea Lab and Gallery at the Center, a space dedicated to curating artistic and thematic exhibits around the Center’s key areas of interest.
